OpenAI's Codex Can Now Plan, Design, and Message Teams Across Multiple Apps

OpenAI has added plugin support to Codex, its AI coding and workflow tool. The update lets Codex connect directly with popular apps like Slack, Figma, Notion, Gmail, Google Drive, GitHub, and others, all without needing manual setup or repeated logins.

Until now, Codex was mainly used for writing and managing code. With plugins, it can now handle work that happens before and after coding, like planning a project, pulling research from documents, or sending updates to a team.

Each plugin bundles everything needed to work with a specific app, including login handling, preset workflows, and the right tools to get things done. Once a plugin is installed, Codex can use multiple apps together in a single run, without switching between tabs or copying information manually.

OpenAI showed a short demo where a user asked Codex to summarize a project from Notion, create a design in Figma, and post an update to a Slack channel, all in one go. Codex completed the full task on its own by pulling from each app in sequence.

Plugins are available in the Codex app, the command-line tool, and IDE extensions. A built-in directory inside the Codex app lists ready-to-use plugins, and developers can also build and share their own using a provided plugin format.

The update is available now for all Codex users on eligible ChatGPT plans, including Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Education. OpenAI said this is only the start and that more plugins and features will be added over time.
